One Funkey A Week: UB & Museum Mask Mayhem

******* Keep UB Funkeys Alive! *******
ONE FUNKEY A WEEK
The Challenge Begins Today!
U.B. is the Funkey this week (even though he's not actually a Funkey) and the game is MUSEUM MASK MAYHEM
Are you up for the challenge? We're picking one Funkey a week to challenge you to play. You don't need to play everyday...but you could! Play that Funkey at least once, or more if you wish, and come here to post a comment with your high scores, how many coins you won, and any item or trophy you won from the game, or anything you want to tell us.
There are no prizes, just fun! And you'll help keep the Funkeys alive.
Liam calls this a COIN BOOST. As you're playing the games each week, your coins will start adding up. So even if you've already bought everything in the Funkey Marts that you want up 'till now, you'll be saving up and ready for when the new series comes in the Fall.

So let's get started and play Museum Mask Mayhem!

This week's game will run from this Saturday, May 9 until next Sunday, May 17th.

The Future of the Funkey? Will they live on?

I am wondering what anyone has heard about the continuation of UB Funkeys?
I don't want to start any rumors, so please realize that I have not heard anything official at all. But I do have many questions about this possibility....and if Mattel is considering discontinuing the line, I wonder if it's too late to do my part to rally up the interest and fun in the game. Liam and I were plannning to pick one Funkey each week for everyone to play its game and then we'd see what everyone's high scores are and what everyone has won. It would be something to do over the summer months when school is out, and also renew the interest in the game.

Someone left a comment on my last blog post saying they work at Mattel and the Funkeys didn't make the cut. Now, we realize that we can't believe everything we hear or read, so don't assume that's true until we hear if officially.
I will say though, that I wouldn't be surprised if it is true. First there was Taejo sold by a former worker who was layed off from Mattel (first sign) & he mentioned in a comment over at the Speakeasy blog that Funkeys wouldn't continue if the sales don't make a certain level, then there is a long delay in the next series release. I believe this has been the longest gap yet.

Please report whatever you find out!

** I decided to just pick up the phone and call Mattel's support and see if I could find out anything. A very nice support person told me they are carrying on and have not heard that on their end. UB Funkeys is still very popular and is the product with a message board the website, and they get the most calls for Funkey product. And they have plans, they're working on new things **

So, let's keep up the Funkey Fun!

UB Funkey Taejo sold for $800 on eBay

The bidding has ended on eBay, and unbelievably, it sold for $800! I hope we get to find out who owns it now. I can actually say this time, unlike with the $360 Dot, that I do understand how a serious collector would pay that much for Taejo. From what I hear, it will be the only one out there. I considered bidding on it, maybe up to $200, but we now know that wouldn't have gotten me far on that auction!

What do you all think? Do you wish it was you who owned Taejo?
[Frogboy is right, that's a "duh" question for anyone reading this blog! How about this ~ how much do you want? How high in the bidding would you go (even if you had the extra money)?

U.B. Funkey Taejo on eBay! Wow!

Do you all think the same person who bought the one (picture below) on eBay turned around and listed it by itself? LOL

Have there been more than 2 on eBay so far that I missed?

Thanks, Pteprocks, for your comment on the last post about this. I went straight to eBay to check it out!

(and thanks to the others prior....for those who left comments, not sure if you were referring to this one, or the last one on eBay from the picture below)

Liam's latest UB Funkey Crib

"The Dragon Dance Party Room"

We got into Taejo's place, Togokahn Motors, with a portal jammer and Liam went shopping at Taejo's Vault, as you can see by the looks of his crib! You could call that a shopping spree! His coins started at over 5,000 and now he's down to 392. He realized I probably wouldn't say "yes" to buying another portal jammer to go back so he got everything in the one shopping spree!

If you want to visit his crib on the tram at Grand Funkey Station, the crib name is "Crabot"

To my surprise, it took a second portal jammer in order to gain access to the game, Taejo's Casa Christo 5000. The good news is we had some free loot that Mattel compensated to the UB Funkeys after the December server problems.

Our advice would be that it's not worth spending real money on a portal jammer to play Taejo's race because it's the same race track as Snake Oiler's.

Catching Up On UB Funkey News ~ Part 1

Hello everyone! As the regular visitors to this blog have probably noticed, we haven't been as active in keeping the blog updated, or visiting our own Funkey Fan Forum. But I am glad that many of you haven't given up on us yet!
In addition to the typical lull that happens between UB Funkey releases, it's been a rough winter with Liam & myself getting sick. It seems we've been taking turns catching something since December.
But there is still lots I want to write about like sorting out all the Funkey Trunk stuff (but we keep getting the message that the clerks are stocking it.....), I really want to list out everything to do with that since there have been lots of questions. But that will be another post when I have more time to write.

Has anyone noticed I changed my name on my posts? What do you think? I haven't fully decided what makes sense, but I have it as "UBF Blogger Mom" for now. I wanted the change for a few reasons. First, I want to make my name less personal because I was creeped out a bit after I started getting some nasty comments, so I want to stop using my real name. So if you leave a comment, I might not put it through if you use my real name.
It also didn't seem right to have younger kids call me by my first name, especially if their parents have taught them to use "Miss" or "Mrs." for names.
Also, I have started a couple other blogs that will also show the name, so I wanted to use a name that would work for them all.

Does anyone have another idea I could use? I put "UBF" in front of "Blogger Mom" to stand for UB Funkeys, and still make it different since the name "Blogger Mom" has probably been used on other blogs many times.

UB Funkeys at 106th American International Toy Fair® in New York City, 2009

Here are some images of UB Funkey figures that were found on Figures.com from the 106th American International Toy Fair® in New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center that took place on Feb. 15 - 18.
(Special recognition goes to Obsessed Funkey for posting images from the Toy Fair on her blog and sharing it with Funkey Fans & that's how we became aware!)

This is the largest Toy Trade Show in the Western Hemisphere! I was hoping to find that Mattel's UB Funkeys were recognized with one of the rewards, but unfortunately they were not!
But surprising to me was that the Toy of the Year award went to Bakugan Battle Brawlers Battle Pack Series 1 Spheres – Spin Master. (source:

Gormiti

Are any other Funkey Fans also into the Gormiti figures? Liam just discovered them, I suppose because the TV commercials for them started running. I was wondering if anyone has these yet? From the little bit of internet research I've done, it appears they were big in Europe over the past year, but started here very recently.

Even though this is off-topic for a UB Funkey blog, I know many of you share the same interests as Liam outside of Funkeys. Such as Bionicles , NeoShifters (he loves the games on the website!), Lego, Nintendo Wii, and DS.

Therefore, I knew you all would most likely be some good people to ask what you know about these Gormiti figures and cards!

Here are pictures of the 2 Gormiti warriors that Liam has:

Really, People? Over $350 for UB Funkey Dot? No,Really?

I am sitting here in total disbelief. P-Lease, somebody explain this to me!

There have been 3 Dot U.B. Funkeys sold on Ebay in the past week or so. One had 48 bids that drove the final price up to $355. Another had 72 bids, driving the price up to $365.51, the third was sold as a "buy it now" for $360.

Come on now, we all know I love U.B. Funkeys, right? Writing this blog for over a year now, I like to play the games every once in a while, I get excited when it's time to hunt for the newly released Funkeys and there's a thrill to finding them.

BUT, PLEASE.........$350 or more to buy Dot? My jaw hit the floor, and it's still there.

I mean, Come on, even "Obsessed Funkey" thinks that's ridiculous and she's obsessed!

Uh, oh, was it you AkaAbbey that bought one of them? LOL. I think she already has one.

To put this in perspective a bit more, I figured out that $350 could buy you 56 Funkeys from Target at their price of about $5.99 plus tax. Target sells some Funkeys for less, and so does Walmart, but I'm taking the conservative approach to make my point. You can vote in my poll (see sidebar) to let everyone know what you think!

Okay, I know I need to let this go, but just one more thing.......I would like to ask these people who were bidding on the Dots once it got over $200:

~ You do realize it's just a piece of vinyl, right?

~ If you want to play Dot's game, you can buy a "familiar" for A WHOLE lot less (it may not be available right now, but I would think it will come back around soon)

~ Mattel should be releasing Dot to retail stores at some point.

~ You have to pay with REAL MONEY if you win the bids on Ebay. Okay, just checking to be sure you know that. It's not just virtual coins like in the game.

Maybe I am just missing something here. Please, someone explain it to me!
